REFLECTIONS FROM THE
Reflections will feature excerpts from books
with stories and memoirs about Notre Dame.
George Strickler tells his own story of how the legend of
the Four Horseman was born. This chapter is excerpted from Jerome Holtzman's terrific
book, No Cheering in the Press Box.
OUT OF BOUNDS
Irish Legends will feature monthly excerpts from Out of Bounds, the anecdotal
history of Notre Dame football. They are reprinted here with the permission of authors
Larry Weaver and Mike Bonifer.
Larry and Mike bring you more great anecdotes,
this time about our famous quartet.
Shenanigans will feature humorous stories from the gridiron and campus.
Jim Crowley was the comic laureate of the Four Horsemen. He had
wonderful speaking voice, expert timing and delivery and a large repetoire of stories.
Here are some of my favorites about Jim and the other Horsemen.
Campus Life will feature inspirational stories from the past and present about
the spirit of the Notre Dame community.
The following is an nostlogic look at a Notre Dame football weekend, circa 1950. It is
excerpted from Richard Sullivan's book Notre Dame. Mr. Sullivan was a nationally
known novelist and short-story writer who graduated from Notre Dame in 1930. For years he
was a beloved professor of English at the University.
