THE FIGHTING SPIRIT: A Championship Season at Notre Dame
by Lou Holtz and John Heisler

This is an absolutely fascinating book on the 1988 National Championship season at Notre Dame. Many of us remember the season, but this first-person account by the coach and his players gives us the inside story. From the "first" game of the 1988 season, the 1988 Cotton Bowl, to the championship game against West Virginia, the authors take you into team meetings, onto the practice field, into the locker room and into the stadium on game day.

If you are interested in Lou Holtz's career at Notre Dame and what makes him tick, then this book is a must read. I enjoyed it very much.

The authors: Coach Holtz needs no introduction. Head Coach for Notre Dame from 1986-1996.

John Heisler: A South Bend native, John is in his eleventh year as sports information director after spending the ten previous years as a member of the sports publicity staff under longtime sports information director Roger Valdiserri.
